This session is intended for partcipants of schools/school divisions that own resources for Word Study (Formerly Words Their Way).

So, you decided to try Word Study for Phonics, Spelling, and Vocabulary Instruction (formerly Words Their Way) in your classroom. You did the initial assessment, organized groups and are ready to begin, but now comes the challenge of implementation. While the program offers a powerful framework for developing students’ spelling, vocabulary, and word knowledge, getting started often raises many questions.
Join us for a collaborative three-session coaching series designed to support teachers who are newer to the program. Together, we will work through common implementation challenges, build confidence, and explore practical strategies for meeting the diverse needs of learners. Each session will be responsive to the emergent needs of participants, the questions they bring, and reflections from their classroom implementation. Across the series, participants will have opportunities to share successes and challenges, learn from colleagues, and receive practical coaching support to help make word study a sustainable and impactful part of classroom instruction.

Session 1: Getting Started & Building Routines - Oct 7/26
We will focus on the practical realities of launching the program, establishing effective routines, managing groups, and troubleshooting those early implementation challenges.

Session 2: Monitoring Progress & Supporting Growth - Oct 28/26
As students become familiar with routines and begin making progress, we will explore informal assessment practices, adjusting instruction, supporting flexible groupings, and responding to student needs as they emerge.

Session 3: Assessing, Reflecting & Planning Next Steps - Nov 17/26
Finally, we will examine student growth at the end of a word study cycle using assessment data and evidence of transfer in authentic reading and writing. Participants will explore ways to extend routines to increase student engagement and independence, while also celebrating successes, addressing challenges, and planning for a successful Cycle 2 and beyond.
